Omni Lounge Darjeling Updates

Its monsoon time in Darjeeling and the rains never seem to stop pouring. Business is not as good as it used to be but we still have our occassional Semi Acoustic Jam Sessions at Omni. In the weekend its Gopal and Mingma (LAID BACK) playing while other days we have friends and regulars dropping in and reliving the old days and belting out all the old songs. And sometimes, its our own Kaku and Benoy showing off their skills!!! Who says the monsoon is bad...

UNPLUGGED SESSION

Moderately LOUD

This weekend we are trying out a new band "Moderately LOUD" featuring Vivek and Jonah, both on acoustic guitars. The idea is to encourage guys to perform acoustic versions of popular songs instead of the usual electric sound and yes, basically have loads of fun! If we get our lyrics right then Suraj and I will also be joining the band wagon this Saturday and Sunday. All are welcome to join the session.

GSM Trio Jam and GAP Students' Party at Omni Darjeeling

Last Saturday Omni Lounge was invaded by GAP students from UK and Australia. They usually come over to Omni in the weekends from their respective communities where they do voluntary services. But last Saturday they all landed up at Omni as it was also some sort of farewell party for most of them. They are going back home.

The "GSM Trio" featuringGopal, Smriti & Mingma gave a powerful performance and we even had two of the GAP students singing with the band. Benoy was also invited to sing one of his originals and he was good! Will add more pic later...

Acoustic Sessions at Omni Lounge with The GSM Trio

Moving on to what we had planned and dreamed of when starting Omni, we are organising the first Acoustic Session at Omni Lounge Darjeeling this Saturday (9 June). Gopal, Smriti & Mingma (all Omni regulars by the way) have formed The GSM Trio and will perform on Saturday and Sunday. Other willing guests can join in the Jam session also. Hope to have Dipank sing some of his originals... I believe they are really good.

The Omni gang (yours truely included) is also planning on a gig around next weekend along with Bibek & Jonah on the guitars. Ozzman is still reluctant to perform without "proper practice", but we are coaxing him to sing just the same. The gang's still waiting for the notorious JK to perform his reggae numbers. JK can you hear us in your jungle???!!!!!

If you are around this Saturday and Sunday, then do drop in for that 90s Unplugged feel .

Hemusphere jams at Omni Lounge Darjeeling

The first ever live jam session at Omni, Darjeeling was a huge success with more than 100 people showing up on Sunday evening! "Hemusphere" consisting of Hemu, Chandan, Bhotay and Yugal were at their best with an American friend also joining the jamming. Folks stayed back till 1:00 am, can you believe that!!!

We are planning on acoustic/unplugged sessions from now on. Check us out this weekend.

The Omni Jam Session with HEMUSPHERE, Darjeeling

We are finally getting into live music sessions now. A lot of people have been advising on how Omni would be perfect for small acoustic & unplugged sessions. So we're trying to organise the first Omni Jam Sessions this Sunday evening with HEMUSPHERE (Hemu, Bhotay, Chandan and Yugal). Yes, they have agreed to perform for free this time. Dipank has been kind enough to lend his sound system and the regulars are thrilled with the news! The show starts at 6:30 pm and we hope to finish latest by 9pm, so that people can sit around and discuss music after that.

Darjeeling is full of people who are into music. Most of them aren't into mainstram but most of them are good singers and play the guitar or some instrument fairly well. We will be encouraging these people to come and jam at Omni. We are thinking more like friends gathering and enjoying good music, like we used to do during college days. Got the point? Jamming, thats what we mean, plain and simple jamming. So if ur interested in doing some music for fun drop in at Omni and we can figure out an evening and get all the guys together.

Omni Lounge Darjeling_7 weeks on

Phew! Its already been 7 weeks since we opened and time seems to have flown. I am getting used to standing behind the bar working night shifts. The joke is that we are similiar to the BPOs of our metros. When everyone goes back home from work Suraj and I start our evening grind at Omni!!!
Who said there's no night life in Darjeeling. Come to Omni Lounge and you'll find guys sitting and chatting till midnight. We broke the record last night and closed at 1:30 am. Can you beat that?! I have always enjoyed talking to people, so this is the perfect place and job to meet up with a lot of interesting people and chat. I cant make cocktails or mocktails so I move around and sit down with our guests and friends. Change the music according to the mood and make sure that everyone's being served well. As I said earlier, it feels like entertaining guests at home.

Still haven't visited Omni, what are you waiting for? Walk right in this evening. We got Lounge, Jazz, Acid Jazz, Reggae, R&B, Hip Hop and World Music. Come and Chill...

Omni Lounge Regulars

Omni Lounge has some very faithful friends and regular customers. These very guys have been there ever since the concept of opening a Lounge in Darjeeling was discussed. They have been there when the place was being renovated and they were there whenever we faced obstacles or faltered along the way, ready to push us on, lend a helping hand and all excited about the new place.

So everytime these guys land up at Omni, it feels like entertaining friends at home. Ruben & Suman (Kaley and Bhaley), Pala, Chuksa Pema, Hindi Kundan, Durey Sargam, Bananana Benoy, Rajiv-tea, Cookies Sudipda, Hippie Roshan, D Punk & PROD...

Omni Lounge Darjeeling_April Updates

April has been a good month for all of us at Omni. Now that word has spread about the new Lounge in Darjeeling people have started dropping by in the evenings. Have collected a fairly large number of Lounge, Acid Jazz and R&B songs from Roshan and Gatty - hard disk space occupied-10GB! Haven't had the oppurtunity to do a photo shoot of my very own place, can you believe that!!? The uploads of today are all taken from my mobile phone, so pls dont judge the pic quality. Yes, that is Suraj (KAKU) making one of his heady cocktails!

Krystal's Birthday at Omni Lounge Darjeeling

As expected, everyone had a blast on Krystal's birthday at Omni Lounge last Friday. The booze was flowing and the dancing shoes were on. People liked the Indian cuisine laid out by Chef Nima and ofcourse Kaku's cocktails and mocktails were a hit. Had to shove some really sloshed guys into Vivek's van and reach them home, but that comes with the package!

First Private Party at Omni Lounge Darjeeling

We organised the first private party yesterday evening at our lounge! CHAI Project's donors from Starbucks USA were in town and they wanted to have a party before they left Darjeeling. Was good to see the CHAI and DEG guys enjoying the new place and savouring the Chinese delicacies provided by our Chef Nima. Suraj was busy concocting mocktail and enthralling the ladies with his skills! I was more into PR and serving the drinks and controlling the CHAI Project guys from going overboard with their drinks.

We have another big party coming up on Friday. John's wife Krystal will be celebrating her birthday and we are planning a surprise from our side for her. Ruben is busy testing the sound system and is planning to get the people dancing on Hip Hop and R&B. Suraj wants to do Indian cuisine for this party and also serve up some special heady cocktails. Seems like everyone's gonna get sloshed this Friday night! BURP...

Omni Lounge open in Darjeeling

The Omni Lounge is finally open in Darjeeling! Saturday the 17th of March was the first day and what a crowd there was. Around 150 people jostling for space and trying to get their food and drinks ordered. All the young and hip were there trying to take in the new Lounge and its offerings. Thanks guys for showing up and making the place happen!

We have been getting a steady flow of people who enjoy lounging and enjoying good music. The food is excellent with mostly Chinese fare on offer. Suraj has been making great cocktails while I try my best to write the KOTs and the BOTs. Although getting home is still a problem with the place closing at 11 pm at night. I hate the long walk back in the dark. Same for Suraj.

Why dont you drop in to get a different feel from all the regular places you've been visitng. Planning to have private parties soon and there's also a movie club that the guys are planning to start here on Sundays. Ozzman will be doing his acoustic numbers along with the Notorious Jack (JK) and Jigme (Cadenza) very soon. Watch our for more news!!!

OMNI_The Lounge Bar in Darjeeling

Omni_The Lounge Bar is being set up right here in Darjeeling. It will be is situated near the TV Tower on the way to Chowrasta. Suraj and I are partners in this venture and we hope to create an ambience where people can sit down, relax and enjoy their drinks.

We will be serving a lot of snacks with sea food included to go with the drinks. Cocktails will also be an important feature with the latest lounge themes being played most of the time. We hope to have weekend parties with invitees only where R&B, Hip Hop and Techno Trance will be mixed by various DJs.

As of now, the sofas are ready.The painters are supposed to finish their job by Tuesday and then the flooring needs to be done. Am still looking around for artifacts for the walls and have come across some good stuffs at the local curios. Suraj will be sitting down with the staff this week and checking out all the F&B areas. We hope to start by February 1st week. So if
